Baicheng Normal College is seated in Baicheng City, commonly known as the City of Cranes, where the Kerqin Prairie and Songliao Plain meet in the west of Jilin Province. Baicheng Normal College,being affiliated to Jilin Province, is an institution of higher learning authorized by the Ministry of Education of China. It originated from the former Baicheng Normal Training School founded in 1958. In 2001，Baicheng Forestry School was merged into Baicheng Normal Training school which became Baicheng Normal College in 2002. Now it has developed into a regional, multi-disciplines undergraduate institution, taking teacher training as dominance, some other disciplines as subsidiary. The college occupies an area of 564,000 square meters, including 257,800 square meters for buildings. Currently, Baicheng Normal College has enrolled students from 25 provinces, cities and regions of our country, with over 8000 full-time undergraduates and students with professional training, more than 3000 correspondence students.

The college offers twenty-eight undergraduate specialties in nineteen departments covering eight main subjects such as: Literature, Science, History and Law, etc. Furthermore, Political Theory Education Department and Adult Educational Institute have been set up. There are also fourteen research centers in various subjects , seventy-six professional laboratories of five laboratory centers and thirty-seven Multi-media classrooms，seven modern multi-media language labs and nine micro-media language classrooms. The college issues the Academic Journal of Baicheng Normal College and Baicheng Normal College Newspaper, providing teachers and students with platforms to exchange their ideas on academics, culture and other hot topics.

There are four hundred and forty-six professional teachers, including twenty-eight professors, one hundred and seventy-one associate professors, one doctoral adviser and four master advisers, thirty doctor-degree holders (some of them are taking their doctorate courses),one hundred and seventy-two master-degree holders, fifty-nine part-time professors invited from home and abroad，among which there are two teachers sharing the Special Allowance of State of Council, one provincial Prominent Contribution Expert, one provincial Chief-Lecturing professor, one provincial Young and Middle-aged Backbone teacher. The college has obtained eight provincial Outstanding Teaching Rewards; nineteen provincial Teaching and Researching Projects; nine Jilin Province Higher Education Outstanding Courses and 2 specialties being regarded as the Mode of Jilin Province Teaching Reform. The college also possesses one provincial Key Subject; one provincial Chief Experimental Teaching Center; eleven key projects of national level or provincial level. Students in our college won many times in various national contests.

To improve the quality of education and better the teaching conditions, investments have been kept increasing over the last several years. The total value of the college’s fixed assets amounts to over 300 million RMB and the teaching instruments and equipments are worth about 4.6 million RMB. The volume of books in the library is up to 800,000, with over 1500 periodicals. We have introduced two giant data base management systems to equip two modern electronic reading rooms. Other facilities are as follows: the gymnasium, the student center, multi-function halls, training rooms for basic teaching skills, cable TV network, campus foreign-language teaching radio stations and campus computer networks, which provide effective safeguarding for education and teaching.

The college has been adhering to the concept of scientific development as the guidance, considering the eleventh five-year plan as the basis; the second development as the goal; the progressive education as the concept, with teaching as the center; the three projects and two constructions as the guarantee; “to be in great virtues, to distinguish right from wrong, to be erudite and to work persistently” as the motto of the college. Carrying forward the hard-working and pioneering spirit and focusing on the development of connotation, the faculties and students are making great efforts together to build Baicheng Normal College into a harmonious, multi-disciplines regional college, with the teacher training education as the dominant aim.
